Collaboration 3

The student motivates how effective collaboration is achieved in the project team, taking into consideration the main variables in determining success or failure in group & collaboration dynamics.

This semester has been a special challenge for me personally, as I had to tackle a full time job, school & founding my own business. The project has not been my number one priority, but as I am very loyal and reliable it was important to me to still fulfill my team role, be there for my team when needed and deliver good work. Usually I fulfill a leader role, but due to my other priorities I did not have the capacity to step into that role this semester. Having this in mind I am astonished that my team members gave me such great feedback. They perceive that I am able to organize my time and as I am a humble person I do not need to brag about all the things I am busy with, which apparently signalizes to them project commitment and focus. Looking back on the project I definitely could have participated more and lead the project in a better direction. Due to the lack of learning opportunity I see for myself in this project (in comparison to the other things I am working on), I chose not to spend the effort on it though. Unfortunately we had quite a lot of issues within the group, which is due to different working mentalities in combination with miscommunication as whats app was our main means of communication. Since almost everyone works full time it was hard to meet as much as we should have, which definitely should receive more commitment and effort from all of us next time. I am astonished that my team members perceive my work as very good, in relation to the time I spent on it. Overall I believe for the group I could have been a better team member giving more of myself to the project, while I also believe others should have given more as well. For me personally I believe this semester was successful as I was able to tackle a lot of work and created a lot of learning opportunities for myself outside this project.

The student motivates how effective collaboration is achieved in the cultural, organizational and political landscape of the company, with the help of a stakeholder analysis.

When conducting a Power / Interest analysis, it becomes clear that all categories require a different approach of collaboration. It is of high importance to manage these collaborations and apply the right approach for the right relation.

Keep Satisfied:

For the group of stakeholders that have low interest but high power the right balance between communication and freedom is the key to keep them satisfied. Employees, Consultancies, Creditors, Shareholders and auditors need to be well informed, but not overwhelmed by information and communication. Too much communication in this case would lead to misunderstandings, confusion and ineffectiveness which needs to be avoided. An example: Giving an employee instructions and information of how to execute his work is helpful to him and results in good outcomes. Giving an employee too much information would lead to him not feeling autonomous and micromanaged.

Manage Closely:

For customers and suppliers, it is not only important to keep them satisfied, but the company also has a high interest of understanding the customers of their bakery goods to be able to understand the demand better or improve supply chain operations. For R.S it is highly important to stay in close contact to their suppliers to assure great quality and get the best deals on supplies to deliver the customers a good price.

Monitor:

Interesting for R.S to monitor are competition, market, populations and organizations of interests. These require minimum effort but are still relevant to determine the company’s success. If these stakeholders develop a negative relationship (e.g. population strongly disagree with R.S working ethics) this might affect the “Manage Closely” and “Keep Satisfied” groups, which then has a great influence on the company’s overall performance. Same if the “Monitor” group develops a great relationship, it might have a positive outcome (e.g. magazine releases a great article, which might turn part of the population into customers and therefore “Manage closely” group.)

Keep Informed:

Lastly R.S. needs to keep government, alliances and their academy well informed. It is important to have a good relationship with this group, as they are part of R.S quality element, which represents a main part of their proposition.

Overall, for R.S the communication is really important as this is part of their trusted proposition. Clear instructions and effective collaborations for the different stakeholder groups will lead them to success.
